Caring For Wool
Did You Know?
You don't actually 'need' to wash pure wool like Merino, at least not very often. Its fibres contain lanolin, which repels dirt and also inhibits the growth of bacteria. This means that naturally airing wool items instead of washing can often be enough.
But if you do want to wash it, see below for instructions.
How To Handwash Wool
1. In a basin of lukewarm water, add a teaspoon of Woolite or baby shampoo and give it a mix.
2. Submerge your woolen item and allow it to absorb the water.
3. Gently lift it out of the basin and squeeze the water from your item, ensuring not to wring or rub the fabric together. Repeat this three or four times or as necessary.
4. On the last lift, squeeze out as much water as possible before placing your item flat on a clean, dry towel.
5. Roll up the towel with your item inside. Press as hard as you can to squeeze out any remaining excess water. Remove from towel.
6. Place your item flat on a drying rac, out of direct sunlight, and allow to dry for 24 to 36 hours.
DO NOT TUMBLEDRY.
